Library Events Update

Hello! As I’m sure you all are aware, Corona-virus is causing cancellations of activities. We are all very upset, however, for the safety of everyone, all library events are cancelled through April 12th.

This blog will continue updating on the cancellations. Stay safe and keep reading!

Upcoming Library Events

Here a couple of library events that we hope you can join us at!

  1. Teen Fandom Ornaments.

Create an ornament of your favorite thing, be it Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Dr. Who, or something else. Registration required. Friday, December 13, 4-5:30pm.
Martha Washington Library.

2. Hot Reads for Cold Nights.

Read three books between January 2 and February 29 and receive a coupon for a free book from the Lorton Book Sale. You’ll be entered into a drawing for an Amazon gift
card. Pick up a reading log at the Information Desk. Lorton Library.

3. Teen Art Club

Glow in the Dark Painting. We will paint using glow in the dark paint. Friday,
December 20, 4:30-5:30pm. Dolley Madison Library.

4. Canvas, Cookies and Cocoa!

Paint your masterpiece while having cookies and hot chocolate!
Saturday, December 21, 2-4pm. Patrick Henry Library.

5. Beginners Calligraphy and Elegant Writing Club.

Practice your calligraphy and handwriting with lessons and exercises. Pens and paper provided. Please arrive on time. Registration required. Tuesday,
January 7, 5-6pm. Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library

YA Book Club Featuring Serpent & Dove

Serpent & Dove (Barnes & Noble YA Book Club Edition) (Serpent & Dove Duology Series #1)

Capital Book Fest in Washington DC

On September 12, 2019 from 10AM – 6PM the Capital Book Fest will happen in the Woodrow Wilson Plaza in Washington DC. 

Browse over 12,000 gently used books, CDs, and DVDs, all on sale for under $6. Books are provided by Carpe Librum, a used, donation-based bookstore benefiting the DC nonprofit Turning the Page.

There’s something for everyone at this sale: children’s books, teen reads, brand-new bestsellers in amazing condition, classic vintage hardbacks, and more!

Calling all writers!

Calling all writers!
Do you have a story inside you, clawing to get out? Do you like making up worlds and characters and setting them loose on each other? Do you want to share your writing with the world?
Well, we want to see it. Submit your work to the Reston Regional Library Teen Advisory Board’s writing contest!

Submission Guidelines:
1) Write a story or poem inspired by our prompt, the image below. Stories and poems should be no longer than two thousand words.
2) Submit your work to restonlibtab@gmail.com by August 1st, 2019. Please attach your work as a Word document (not a Googledoc). Please also use the subject line “TAB Writing Contest: [Title of Work]” and include your name and contact information in the body of the email.
3) We’ll contact you by August 15th to tell you if you’ve won!
4) (Optional) Let us know in your submission email if you’d like feedback on your work. We’ll give that to you by August 15th as well.

Prizes:
1st Prize: 75$ Amazon gift card
2nd Prize: 50$ Amazon gift card
3rd Prize: 25$ Amazon gift card
